Copyright Office Fellow Lisa Hardman Selected as ARL Diversity Scholar
The Copyright Office is pleased to announce that Lisa Hardman, one of our ARL Career Enhancement Program Fellows for 2012, has been named as an ARL Diversity Scholar. Lisa worked with us over the course of last year to create a comprehensive research and action agenda to help libraries make full legal uses of state government documents. Lisa made great headway in a largely uncharted area of law and policy; state application of copyright to their statutes, administrative codes, and executive work product is a complicated fifty state patchwork of law and custom. Lisa’s work has enabled us to begin working systemically to make state documents available in HathiTrust whenever possible, whether by permission or due to our better understanding the law. For example, Lisa’s work, and the work of a current intern Justin Bonfiglio, in tandem with members of the Michigan State Library has led to hundreds of Michigan State documents being made available in HathiTrust, with more works, both from the State of Michigan and other states, in the pipeline to be made available soon. Congratulations, Lisa!
